The Lagos State Government, through the Office of Political, Legislative and Civic Engagement, has presented cheques to 150 beneficiaries of the Sanwo-Olu Cares Social Intervention programme, an initiative aimed at addressing the needs of vulnerable Lagosians.
The Deputy Director, Public Affairs of the Office, Olatokunbo Dawodu, in a statement obtained Sunday, noted that the event held at the Conference Room of the agency on Friday.
At the event, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Political, Legislative and Civic Engagement, Dr. Afolabi Tajudeen, explained that the programme was to improve the lives of vulnerable residents.
He noted that the move was to provide adequate empowerment, especially amid the economic hardship in the country.
He said, “Every eligible and vulnerable citizen has a right to receive the support they need to overcome financial challenges and contribute to the state’s economic growth. This event symbolises Governor Babjide Sanwo-Olu’s dedication to his ‘no one will be left behind’ philosophy.
“This is just the beginning of our commitment to ensuring that every Lagosian has the opportunity to thrive. Sanwo-Olu will continue to listen, understand, and respond to the needs of Lagosians.”
Explaining the selection process, Afolabi clarified that there was no discrimination, noting that recipients were selected based on their application, with detailed financial needs and how they planned to expend the funds.
He said each beneficiary would be receiving a cheque of varying amounts, tailored to their individual need.
Appreciating the government, one of the beneficiaries, Akinbamire Esther, noted that the financial aid would be used for the medical expenses of her son, who was in dire need of urgent surgery.
Dignitaries at the event included the Permanent Secretary, Office of Political, Legislative and Civic Engagement, Sholabomi Shasore; Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Civic Engagement, Ruth Lijrin; SSA to the Governor on Political and Legislative, Saidi Balogun, as well as directors and staff of the agency.
Earlier in August, Afolabi reaffirmed Sanwo-Olu’s commitment to addressing the needs of Lagosians amid the ongoing economic challenges.
He spoke at the presentation of cheques to 100 beneficiaries of a Financial Assistance Programme at Alausa, Ikeja.
