16 Die, Others Injured In Oyo Tragic Road Accident

At least 16 individuals have reportedly lost their lives, and 17 others sustained injuries in a recent accident that occurred in Oyo State.

A report obtained by Naija News revealed that the tragic incident happened on Tuesday morning along the Ojoo-Iwo Road section of the Ibadan-Lagos expressway, near the Agbowo/Ajao area of the state.

It was gathered that the incident transpired when a trailer carrying roofing sheets collided with an 18-seater Toyota bus, a Micra taxi, and a Honda CR-V.

Eyewitness accounts indicate that the trailer suffered brake failure, leading to the collision with the three vehicles travelling in the same direction, resulting in a catastrophic crash.

Leadership quoted eyewitnesses, Emmanuel Omotoso and Funmi Adejumo, to have disclosed that the ongoing construction on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway may have contributed to the fatalities, as the opposite lane of the expressway was obstructed.

Reacting to the recent occurrence, motorists have urged the Oyo State Government to acquire heavy towing vehicles and ambulance buses for emergency rescue operations in situations like this.

They also called on the contractor responsible for the road construction to clear the blocked lane to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Private heavy towing vehicles were said to have later arrived at the scene and were actively involved in removing the trapped vehicles and some of the rescued passengers were taken to the hospital for medical care.

The Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) in Oyo State, Roseline Alo, confirmed the accident, stating that 16 individuals died and 17 were injured.

Alo mentioned that the injured were transported to the hospital for treatment, while two individuals escaped without injury. She also noted that the driver of the trailer fled the scene following the accident.
