2 Killed As Tanker Explodes On Ijebu-Ode-Ibadan Expressway

Two individuals have lost their lives in a devastating petrol tanker accident that occurred in Imope village, along the Ijebu-Ode-Ibadan Expressway in Ogun State.

The accident, involving a tanker with the registration number T 623 LA X, happened around 10 am on Saturday, resulting in the deaths of the driver, Salau Semiu, and his assistant, known only as Saheed.

According to the Ogun State Police spokeswoman, Omolola Odutola, the tanker was en route from Pinnacle Petrol Depot in Lagos to Oyo State, carrying 45,000 litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS).

The driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle, causing it to veer off the road and overturn, leading to a catastrophic explosion.

The spokesperson of the state police command noted that an investigation has been launched into the accident, adding that the scene has been visited by its operatives.

Odutola further stated that the swift response of the Ogun State Fire Service to the scene of the incident ended the inferno.

She said, “We initiated an investigation into the accident, with the scene being visited by the Divisional Police Officer, Oru Division, who mobilised traffic personnel to halt vehicular movement, as well as the Ogun State Fire Service, who responded swiftly and the inferno was surmounted.”
