Falconets forward, Chiamaka Okwuchukwu has earned a spot on the final shortlist for the 2024 CAF Women’s Young Player of the Year award.
This recognition comes on the heels of her impressive performance at the 2024 FIFA Under-20 Women’s World Cup, where she emerged as one of the standout players for the Falconets.
During the tournament, Okwuchukwu showcased her exceptional talent by scoring two crucial goals in four matches, helping her team navigate the challenging rounds until their eventual elimination by a formidable Japanese side in the Round of 16.
Her skill and determination have not only caught the eyes of fans but also positioned her as a strong contender for this prestigious individual honour.
Okwuchukwu will compete for the CAF award against Egypt’s promising talent, Habiba Sabry, and Morocco’s Doha El Madani, making it a fierce race among emerging stars. The award ceremony is set to take place in the vibrant city of Marrakech, Morocco, on Monday, December 16.
Meanwhile, Edo Queens have also made waves by securing a place on the final shortlist for the 2024 CAF Women’s Club of the Year award.
Alongside them are the reigning African champions TP Mazembe and Moroccan powerhouse AS FAR. The Confederation of African Football (CAF) revealed the final nominees on Thursday, December 12.
Edo Queens have made a mark this year by winning the WAFU B Women’s Champions League. Additionally, they demonstrated resilience by finishing fourth at the recently concluded 2024 CAF Women’s Champions League.
Note that the 2024 CAF Awards ceremony is scheduled to take place in Marrakech, Morocco, on Monday, December 16.
