D’Tigress head coach, Rena Wakama, has expressed confidence that her team will make a strong comeback following their recent loss to France at the 2024 Olympics Women’s basketball tournament.

Despite their defeat, the Nigeria women’s basketball side remains determined to deliver a better performance in their upcoming match against Canada, to secure a spot in the next round.

Recall that they suffered a 75-54 defeat at the hands of France, which has placed their qualification for the next round of the tournament at risk after a promising start.

The only way for the six-time African champions to scale through from the group is to beat Canada on Sunday, a feat coach Wakama believes she and her girls can accomplish.

“While we are disappointed with the result against France, we are motivated to put in a strong performance against Canada”, Wakama told FIBA.com.

“A win will ensure our place in the next round.”

In another event at the 2024 Olympics, Kanyinsola Ajayi and Favour Ashe showcased remarkable performances in the men’s 100m event, securing spots in the semi-finals at their debut Olympic Games.

Ajayi’s impressive victory in Heat 5, where he outpaced Olympics champion Lamont Marcell Jacobs, was a standout moment.

Ashe secured a spot in the semis after a competitive display in Heat 4.

In swimming, Adaku Nwandu displayed skill and determination in the women’s 50m Freestyle, finishing second in her heat behind Elizaveta Pecherskikh.

Although Nwandu narrowly missed out on a spot in the final, her performance at the 2024 Olympics was lauded by her fans.
