2024 Olympics: D’Tigress Of Nigeria Will Face USA In Quarter-finals

Nigeria’s basketball team, D’Tigress, will face the United States in the quarter-finals of the women’s basketball event at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

The D’Tigress achieved a historic milestone by securing Nigeria’s first-ever spot in the last eight of the Olympic basketball tournament. This remarkable accomplishment came after their impressive 79-70 victory over Canada in their final group game on Sunday.

Initially, the reigning African champions were topping Group B with five classification points after defeating Canada, but their standing shifted when Australia defeated France 79-72 in the other group match, pushing Nigeria down to third place in the rankings.

Nigeria’s women’s basketball team completed the group stage with two wins and one defeat which qualified them for the next round.

On the other hand, the USA won all their three group games against Japan, Belgium, and Germany.

Hence, the quarter-final clash between the D’Tigress and the defending champions, the USA, will be the biggest test for coach Rena Wakama and her girls.

The match will take place at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy Arena in Lille on August 7 at 9:30 pm (Nigerian time).

This upcoming encounter marks the second Olympic face-off between the two countries.

At the Tokyo Games, D’Tigress experienced a narrow nine-point defeat to the Americans in their opening group game. They also faced defeat against the Americans in the Olympic qualifiers.

In the other quarter-final clashes, Serbia will compete against Australia, Spain will face Belgium, and France will go up against Germany.
