Nigerian sprinter Favour Ofili has secured her place in the final of the women’s 200 meters at the 2024 Olympics.

With a remarkable season-best performance, Favour Ofili clocked in at 22.05 seconds, earning her a spot in the final after finishing behind the new women’s 100m champion, Julien Alfred of Saint Lucia, in heat 1 of the semi-finals at the Stade de France in Paris. She finished third among the eight semi-finalists.

Note that Favour Ofili went into the 2024 Olympics ranked 31st in the world with a personal best of 21.96. So far at the tournament, she has competed and beaten some of the best in the game.o

Hence, most Nigerians will expect her to continue with the form when she battles for the 200m gold at 20:40 later tonight, August 6.

In another thrilling event, Nigerian wrestler Blessing Oborududu secured her place in the semi-finals of the women’s 68kg wrestling event at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Oborududu, currently ranked number 6 in the world, defeated her Canadian opponent, Linda Morais, with an impressive 8-2 victory in the quarter-final match.

Oborududu’s upcoming semi-final bout against Meerim Zhumanazarova from Kyrgyzstan at the Champ-de-Mars Arena at 8 p.m. tonight is expected to be a keenly contested encounter.

Note that Oborududu is a silver medalist at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, while her opponent, Zhumanazarova, ranked 16th in the world, is a bronze medalist in the same weight category at the previous Olympics.
