2025 AFCON Qualifiers: Super Eagles Of Nigeria To Regroup On September 1

The Super Eagles are scheduled to regroup in Uyo on September 1 in preparation for their 2025 AFCON qualifiers against Benin and Rwanda.

The backroom staff will be in Uyo from September 1, anticipating the timely arrival of the Super Eagles players who will be invited to the games.

The upcoming matches include a faceoff against Benin Republic at Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo on September 7, followed by another AFCON qualifier against Rwanda three days later.

Following Finidi George’s departure from the Super Eagles coaching position in June, the Nigeria Football Federation is yet to appoint a new coach, with the options of former Sweden coach Janne Andersson and experienced French coach Hervé Renard being reportedly considered.

In a recent poll by Punch, football fans chose two-time Africa Cup of Nations winning coach Herve Renard as their preferred candidate for the vacant Super Eagles coaching position. Renard received the majority of votes, with supporters advocating for his extensive experience in African football.

The decision to appoint a foreign technical adviser for the team came after public dissatisfaction with the team’s performances, including a surprising defeat to Benin Republic in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers in Ivory Coast last month.

As the NFF nears the end of its search for the next coach, reports indicate that the choices have been narrowed down to Renard and Andersson. However, the decision may be influenced by Renard’s substantial salary demands, which previously raised concerns.
