At least twenty-five (25) shops were reportedly destroyed after fire gutted a structure on Saturday morning in Ilorin, the capital of Kwara State.

Naija News learnt that the fire incident happened around the Adeta roundabout at 02:39 hours today.

Hassan Adekunle, the spokesman for the service, stated in a release on Saturday that firefighters, upon their arrival, discovered a block of approximately 25 shops fully engulfed in flames.

“Thanks to the swift action and bravery of the Kwara State fire service officers, only three shops suffered damage, including a soft drinks and alcohol shop.

“Preliminary investigations indicated that the fire was caused by a power surge,” the statement disclosed.

The Director of the State Fire Service, Prince John Falade Olumuyiwa, has since sympathized with the owners of the affected shops, offering prayers for the restoration of their losses.

He also urged the public to prioritize safety and ensure all electrical appliances are unplugged when not in use.

Barely a week ago, a devastating fire swept through Ajah Market near Alesh Bus Stop in Lagos’ Lekki area, reducing goods worth millions of naira to ashes.

Naija News learnt that the fire ignited around 9 p.m., quickly spreading across numerous shops stocked with highly flammable materials.

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), led by Permanent Secretary, Dr. Femi Oke-Osanyintolu, responded promptly, working alongside the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Services to bring the situation under control.

The exact cause of the fire remains unknown at this point. Thankfully, no lives were lost or injuries sustained, as the market was closed for the day and traders were not on-site.

Oke-Osanyintolu stated, “The LASEMA Response Team, along with the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, managed to prevent the fire from spreading to neighboring buildings.

“Efforts are ongoing to completely extinguish the fire and salvage remaining valuables.”
