Scarface was a promising student but struggled with the rules at his strict parochial Catholic school. He stopped schooling at the age of 14 after being expelled for hitting a female teacher in the face.

Capone joined the Five Points Gang (in Lower Manhattan) as a teenager and became a bouncer in organized crime premises such as brothels. He also worked at odd jobs around Brooklyn, including a candy store and a bowling alley, and played semi-professional baseball from 1916 to 1918.

Scarface moved to Chicago in his early twenties and became a bodyguard of Johnny Torrio, the head of an Italian criminal syndicate protected by the Unione Siciliana political party.

Al Capone became one of the most famous gangsters in America during the Prohibition era in the 1920s and 1930s after Torrio retired and handed control to him.

Nonetheless, his seven-year reign as a crime boss of the Chicago Outfit crime empire in the Windy City ended when he was sentenced to 11 years over tax evasion.

Monster Al Capone served his sentence at Alcatraz Island before being released in 1939 after almost eight years of incarceration. He died in 1947 at the age of 48 due to complications from syphilis.

Due to truancy and bullying by other students, Gotti dropped out of Franklin K. Lane High School at 16. By then, he had been involved in street gangs associated with New York City Mafiosi since he was 12.

Gotti even attempted to steal a cement mixer from a construction site at age 14, but it fell and crushed his toes, leaving him with a permanent limp.

After quitting school, John Gotti worked with the Mafia-associated Fulton-Rockaway Boys gang. Around that time, he met his mentor, Gambino's underboss, Aniello "Neil" Dellacroce.

Gotti would later plot and order the murder of Gambino boss Paul Castellano in December 1985 and take over the gang shortly after that. As the gang's leader, he reportedly earned between $5 million and $20 million annually.

John's underboss, Salvatore "Sammy the Bull" Gravano, aided the FBI in his conviction in 1991 after hearing belittling remarks the Gambino boss made about him on a wiretap that implicated both of them in several murders.

As a result, Gotti was convicted of murder, tax evasion, racketeering, and other crimes in 1992. He died of throat cancer at the United States Medical Center for Federal Prisoners in Springfield, Missouri, while serving a life sentence.

After the dishonorable discharges ended their boxing careers, the brothers turned to crime full-time. The Kray twins gained fame in the 1960s by mixing with celebrities and operating the Krayleigh Enterprises, a bodyguard and security business for Hollywood stars, with their older brother Charlie Kray.

Ronnie and Reggie were sentenced to life in prison in 1969. They attended their mother's funeral in 1982, who died from cancer but did not ask for permission to attend their father's funeral in 1983.

Ronnie was eventually certified insane and was committed to the Broadmoor Hospital in Crowthorne, Berkshire, from 1979 until his death on 17 March 1995.

Meanwhile, their brother, Charlie, was released from prison in 1975 after serving seven years for his role in their gangland crimes. Charlie was later sentenced to 12 years in 1997 for conspiracy to smuggle narcotics in an undercover drug sting. He died in prison on 4 April 2000, aged 72.

Reggie was allowed out of prison to attend the funerals. He was released on 26 August 2000 on compassionate grounds after being diagnosed with terminal bladder cancer and died on 1 October 2000, aged 66.

In 1997, Reggie married Roberta Jones, whom he met while still in prison as she was marketing a film she was making about Ronnie. He spent the final weeks of his life with his wife, Roberta. The famed gangster had a strong influence on the Italian-American Mafia. Despite nearly 50 years as a member/participant in organized crime, Meyer Lansky was never convicted of a significant crime other than illegal g*ambling.

Before the Jewish-American mobster fled Cuba, he was said to be worth an estimated $20 million.
