Amidst tight security, Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, has urged Nigerians to draw strength from their resilience and capacity to unite in the face of adversity.

In his address at Ahmadu Bello Stadium in Kaduna on Tuesday, marking the nation’s 64th Independence Anniversary, Sani emphasised the significance of Nigeria’s Independence, achieved on 1st October 1960.

He acknowledged the country’s journey, marked by both highs and lows over the past 64 years, and noted that the celebration was not only about the “freedom” attained but also the collective efforts that have brought the nation this far.

“Today reminds us not only of our sovereignty but of the courage and resilience that define us as a people.

“We celebrate not just the freedom we have achieved, but the collective effort that has brought us thus far. We honour the struggles of our past, the sacrifices of our heroes, and the unwavering spirit of our people,” the governor said.

The governor recognised the current economic challenges faced by many households, attributing them to global economic systems and past mismanagement.

However, he expressed optimism, noting that both the federal and state governments were implementing measures to alleviate the hardships experienced by citizens.

“The Federal and State Governments have stepped up with short, medium, and long-term measures to mitigate the hardships of citizens.

“The President Bola Tinubu-led Federal Government has taken bold and painful economic measures to reinvent the economy and steady the ship of state,” the governor added.

Despite the challenges, Sani highlighted Nigeria’s achievements, including 24 years of uninterrupted democratic governance and its growth into Africa’s largest economy.

“We have enjoyed uninterrupted democratic governance for 24 years. Economically, Nigeria has experienced growth, becoming Africa’s largest economy,” he noted.

Speaking further, Sani said his administration in Kaduna State was focusing on agriculture, education, health, innovation, and entrepreneurship to transform the rural economy.

He also emphasised the importance of building bridges, fostering inclusivity, and nurturing hope while calling on Nigerians to work together to create a brighter future.

He said, “We are investing heavily in agriculture, education, health, innovation, and entrepreneurship. The transformation of the rural economy is on course, as many road projects have been completed and many others are ongoing across the state.

“We shall continue to build bridges, not walls; to foster inclusivity, not division; and to nurture hope, not despair,” he assured.

“Let us draw strength from our resilience and our capacity to unite in the face of adversity. Let us confront and embrace the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. Let us work together to create a brighter future where every citizen can thrive and reach their full potential.”
