₦70,000 Minimum Wage: NLC To Decide On Next Step After NEC Meeting Tomorrow

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has said that it plans on holding a meeting tomorrow by 11am to discuss the ₦70,000 minimum wage proposal.

Recall that President Bola Tinubu through the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris disclosed that the Nigerian government would pay ₦70,000 as new minimum wage to workers

Speaking on the development, a source in the meeting told Vanguard that organized Labour would hold NEC meeting tomorrow by 11am to present the ₦70,000 new minimum wage to them.

The source said NLC would decide whether to accept FG’s ₦70,000 minimum wage or decline after presenting it to their member’s tomorrow.

Todays meeting was attended by Labour leaders, including the President of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), Joe Ajaero, and that of the Trade Union Congress (TUC), Festus Osifo.

Meanwhile, former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, has criticised the ₦70,000 approved on Thursday by President Bola Tinubu as the new minimum wage for Nigerian workers.

Sowore, in his reaction via a post on his account on the X platform, described the new minimum wage as slave wages and rejected it.

A statement by the Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, revealed that the new minimum wage will be reviewed every three years.
