State PDP elects new excos, national delegates
The Akwa Ibom State Head of Civil Service, Effiong Essien, has denied putting out any state government circular that the Supreme Court has approved partisan politics for civil servants.

Essien refuted this claim at the weekend during the training of permanent secretaries in the state by the Administrative Staff College of Nigeria, (ASCON), Topo, Badagry, on ‘Leadership and Good Governance’ at the Ibom LED, E-Library, Uyo, the state capital.

The Akwa Ibom head of service, who was making his contributions during a lecture by an ex-faculty member of ASCON, A.O. Ikohun, on ‘Overview of the Public Service Rule’ on the last day of the training, emphasised that there was no circular to back-up the supposed Supreme Court’s judgment on partisanship in the service.

He affirmed that without any circular or review of the relevant section in the Public Service Rule by the government, the status quo remained, which is that there is no partisan politics for civil servants.

Essien urged permanent secretaries and civil servants to abide by the conduct stipulated by the Public Service Rule and shun partisan politics and all other conducts that are inimical to their civil service career.

The Head of Civil Service used the occasion to express appreciation to the Governor, Umo Eno, for approving the training for permanent secretaries, while thanking ASCON for relocating its faculty members to Akwa Ibom State for the weeklong training.

In a vote of thanks, the Dean, College of Permanent Secretaries, Stella Etukakpan, expressed appreciation to the governor for approving the training.

Also, new leadership has emerged in all 31 local council chapters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Akwa Ibom State, following the election of Chapter Executive Committee Members who will hold the reins of leadership of the party for a four-year tenure at the council level across the state.

At the congress, a total of 18 chapters’ officers were elected in each council, including one national delegate per council, bringing the total to 31 national delegates. Also, One Person Living With Disabilities (PLWD) was elected in each local council, bringing the total of PLWDs to 31 across the state.

Governor Umo Eno was among eminent members of the party elected as national delegates at the council congress, which was held at the state PDP headquarters at Nsit Ubium.

In his goodwill message to all the council areas, which was delivered by the elders and stakeholders of the party in the various domains, the governor, who is also the leader of the PDP in the state, praised the unity of purpose and dogged resolve for the victory that has remained as the defining traits of the PDP in the state. He noted that the newly elected officers must be prepared to work assiduously to steady the party on the path of successive electoral conquest in Akwa Ibom.
