Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, took the opportunity of the 59th national conference of the Ilorin Emirate Descendants Progressive Union on Wednesday to highlight the key successes of his administration.

Addressing the gathering at the forecourt of the Emir of Ilorin, Dr. Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, the governor expressed gratitude to the Emir and all stakeholders for their unwavering support.

Abdulrazaq commended IEDPU for its vital role in maintaining peace and unity both within Ilorin and beyond.

He showcased the significant progress made in the state’s urban renewal initiative, noting that several key roads in Ilorin and surrounding areas had been upgraded, contributing to the city’s rapid transformation.

The governor emphasised the importance of these projects in boosting the local economy and improving quality of life.

He pointed to major road reconstructions, including Sulu-Gambari Road, Oja Oba, Balogun Fulani, Ibrahim Taiwo Road, and others as part of an effort to bring Ilorin in line with Nigeria’s leading capital cities.

The urban renewal efforts, he said, are expanding beyond Ilorin, with Offa also benefitting from substantial roadworks.

“We are proudly transforming the landscape of Ilorin,” Abdulrazaq said. “This urban renewal initiative is moving to other parts of the state, including Offa, with the massive reconstruction work on Ibrahim Taiwo Road.”

In addition to infrastructure, Abdulrazaq spoke about the administration’s efforts to revive Kwara’s economic legacy, including the Dada Pottery revival project and ongoing revitalization of Patigi Motel to stimulate local economic activity.

He also shared news of the commencement of the Ilorin Smart City project, which is progressing smoothly with compensation processes for affected landowners in place.

“We do not take for granted the support you’ve given to our administration and to President Bola Tinubu’s government,” he added.

During the event, the Balogun Gambari of Ilorin, Alhaji Aliyu Adebayo, represented the Emir, while Ambassador Yahya Seriki, the chief launcher, made a notable contribution of N100m for ongoing IEDPU projects.

IEDPU President, Abdulmumin AbdulMalik, praised the governor’s efforts in transforming Ilorin and Kwara State.

He noted that the ongoing and completed projects were essential for enhancing the capital city’s aesthetic appeal and called for further expansion of infrastructure, particularly roads, schools, and healthcare facilities.
