Wife of Abia State governor, Mrs Precillia Otti, has provided financial assistance for people of the state as part of activities to mark this year’s International Day of Charity.

The reliefs include payment of hospital bills to the tune of over N3m for six patients who had earlier been discharged at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Umuahia, as well as empowering 150 women petty traders at the Orie Ugba Market, Umuahia, and two other markets in Isiala Ngwa North and Isiala Ngwa South local governments.

Speaking at the FMC after handing over proof of payment of the bills to the management, she said the gesture was in line with the agenda of her husband’s administration to improve the welfare of the people.

She said such a visit and gesture would not be a one-off event and encouraged well-meaning individuals in the state to support the less privileged, especially at hard times like now.

The first lady also appreciated the dedication of the management and staff of the centre to their duties and urged them to continue their service of saving lives.

At Ugba Market, she said the market would be refurbished and later shared launch some people on streets and roads in Aba and Umuahia.

The commissioner for poverty alleviation and social protection, Blessing Felix, commended Mrs Otti for the gesture and solicited the support of the people for the government.
