The Governor of Abia State, Alex Otti, has stated that the God in heaven is his only ‘godfather’, insisting that he operates independently without a political influence and does not permit external influences to dictate his governance.
Otti reaffirmed his commitment to an open-door policy while addressing the complications that arise from political sponsorship, noting that those in political office often encounter undue pressure from their benefactors.
He further stated that it is too late for anyone to disrupt his administration, reinforcing that his government is firmly anchored in faith.
Otti expressed his belief that the accomplishments of his administration will establish a benchmark that will challenge individuals lacking substance in future electoral contests in Abia State.
Naija News reports that Otti made these remarks during a Thanksgiving service held at St. James Methodist Church in Umuda, Isingwu, Umuahia North Council, organized by Hon. Smart Ihuoma, the Mayor of the council.
Otti reiterated that he welcomes suggestions but only acts on those he deems reasonable and beneficial for the state.
“One of the challenges in politics is that when people enter office on the support or finances of someone else, it becomes easy for that person to dictate to them,” Otti said.
“But I can assure you that we are standing on our feet. Our only godfather is the God in heaven. We operate an open-door policy, so we are willing to listen to suggestions, but they will not be treated as orders.
“By the time we are done serving, those with nothing to offer will find it impossible to contest elections in Abia State.”
Otti made comparisons to the transformation of Anambra State in 1999 under the leadership of Dr. Chris Ngige, emphasizing that Ngige’s brief yet significant tenure established a benchmark that future governors have been expected to meet.
“Since that time, the citizens of Anambra have remained vigilant in protecting their democracy to prevent a regression to previous unfavorable conditions,” Otti remarked.
The governor expressed his contentment with the increasing public engagement in governance and reiterated his dedication to transparency through regular media interactions, where he provides accountability for his administration and addresses the inquiries of the populace.
He assured the people of Abia State that he would not let them down and expressed gratitude to the church members for their ongoing support and prayers.
