Abia Gov’s Wife Seeks Justice For Victim Of Eye Plucking Attempt

The wife of Abia State governor, Priscilla Otti, has sought justice for a housewife, Amarachi Lawrence, whose husband allegedly attempted to pluck her eyes at Atta, Emede Ibeku in Umuahia, the state capital.

Mrs Otti made the appeal while speaking to journalists after visiting the woman at the Federal Medical Centre in the capital, making a cash donation of an undisclosed amount of money for her treatment.

She said the visit was intended to assess the condition of the woman, who suffered severe injuries, and to explore how the state government could support her treatment and quick recovery.

“Investigations are still in progress. The government is focused on ascertaining the truth of the matter. And I promise that everyone involved will be brought to book,” she noted.

She called for community involvement to address gender-based violence in the state and lauded the traditional ruler of the community, Eze Allen Okpokiri, and the youths for their quick response to the incident.

The first lady, who had earlier visited the monarch to assure him and the people that the government would not allow the incident to be swept under the carpet, expressed displeasure over the incident.

In her reaction, the director of nursing services at the centre, Onyemaobi Aisha, said the woman was receiving treatment for the injuries, adding that only an eye doctor can speak on the condition of the eyes.

The couple’s landlady, Lovejane Nwiwu, while giving an eyewitness account of the incident, said she was attracted to their apartment when she started hearing a call for help from the woman.

“Lawrence Chukwunyere and his wife have until then been living peacefully as husband and wife. Only he can explain in detail what happened between them,” she added.
