Abia State government has engaged the services of a contractor to arrest the Ovom Aba erosion.
It has also hired a contractor to activate the building and expansion of the Aba Enyimba Hotel.
Information and Culture Commissioner Prince Okey Kanu disclosed this yesterday after the weekly state executive council meeting.
He said the decision to address the erosion was informed by the threat to residents’ lives and property.
The Director General of Greater Aba Development Authority (GADA), Mr Uche Ukeje, told The Guardian that the contractor would quickly and professionally stop the erosion from advancing further, causing havoc, and reclaim the already devastated area.
On the Aba Enyimba Hotel, the commissioner noted that Governor Alex Otti’s administration decided to expand it beyond its original plan to the status of an international conference centre.
Recall that the hotel, initiated by the defunct East Central State government and inherited by the old Imo and Abia state governments, remained comatose for decades.
