Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has encouraged All Progressives Congress candidates in the upcoming local government elections to ensure a resounding victory for the party.

Abiodun stated that the APC has a solid standing in the race, having fully delivered on electoral promises, and is well-positioned for a decisive win.

The governor highlighted that the APC administration has democratised governance and infrastructure development, bringing government closer to the people.

He affirmed that the ruling party remains the one to beat in the LG elections set for 16 November.

He expressed confidence that the APC will secure both the chairmanship and councillorship positions across all 20 local government areas of the state.

Governor Abiodun shared these views during a Friday meeting with the 20 chairmanship candidates, their running mates, and 236 councillorship candidates in the forthcoming elections, alongside the 20 local government party chairmen.

He noted that the people of Ogun appreciate the developmental strides of the APC-led government and are eager to establish such proactive leadership at the grassroots level.

Abiodun stated, “I expect you have met with other contestants and reconciled with them in the spirit of unity and understanding.

“We mustn’t leave room for discord, animosity, or any attempt to divide the party in this election. Harmony is essential in each local government.”

He further reminded the attendees that their selection process was careful, and deliberate, adding that none of the candidates emerged by accident.

“There is no accidental candidate among you, as we’ve carefully chosen those capable of leading at the local level. I am taking this election very seriously and ensuring the right fit for our local governments,” he added.

Abiodun reiterated the election’s importance in driving grassroots development and urged candidates to embody the ‘ISEYA’ mantra of his administration, reflecting its vision in their local campaigns.

“Our campaigns must be cohesive across areas like Ijebu-North, Abeokuta-South, Ipokia, and Ado-Odo-Ota,” he said.

The governor also announced plans for groundbreaking projects, including a deep-sea port, naval base, and dockyard in the Ogun Waterside Local Government Area.

He highlighted achievements of his administration, citing over 700 kilometres of roads and more than 4,000 housing units built across Ogun.
Additionally, over 120 Primary Health Care Centres and 1,000 classrooms have been rehabilitated, with further projects underway.

Earlier, state party chairman Chief Yemi Sanusi stressed the need for candidates to actively campaign to ensure a victorious outcome for the party.
