The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) is set to lift the suspension of Mr. Mamman Mike Osuman (SAN) as Chairman of its National Executive Committee (NEC) today, barring any last-minute changes.
Sources confirmed to Daily Trust on Tuesday that plans to announce the reinstatement are underway, following a successful reconciliation meeting held on Saturday.
The meeting was convened by the ACF Unity, Peace, and Reconciliation Committee, led by Alhaji Mahmud Yayale Ahmed, a former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF).
The reconciliation effort comes after a series of meetings, including one last week Tuesday, aimed at resolving the leadership crisis within the forum.
Mr. Osuman was initially suspended over controversial remarks perceived as deviating from ACF’s non-partisan stance.
In a statement co-signed by ACF Secretary General Malam Murtala Aliyu and BoT Chairman Alhaji Bashir Dalhatu, Osuman was accused of making unauthorized comments suggesting northern support for a northern presidential candidate in the 2027 elections.
Insiders, however, revealed to Weekend Trust that the crisis was the culmination of longstanding issues within the forum, including personality clashes, ego battles between Osuman and the Board of Trustees (BoT) chairman, and unresolved structural and constitutional matters.
The politics of the 2027 elections further exacerbated these tensions, highlighting deeper divisions within the apex socio-cultural group representing northern Nigeria.
