To address the epileptic power crisis in the country, the Adamawa State Government has taken the giant step to install solar power systems in the state owned institutions and streets in the state capital.

Already, major streets in Yola, the state capital are powered with solar systems through which the people enjoy electricity supply all night.

While speaking on the power crisis across the country, the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Information, Mr Solomon Kwamanga acknowledged that the world is moving towards renewable energy. As such, Adamawa State would not be left behind the growing technology.

He told Arewa PUNCH on Monday in an exclusive interview that with the intense sun in Adamawa state, solar power is the best for the state to generate its alternative power supply.

“Solar power system is cheaper more flexible in terms of maintenance, so based on our resources, for now, the state is more comfortable with the solar power system project, “ he said.

Kwamanga pointed out that the governor has already kicked start the solar power system project in the state.

“The solar power system has started at Adamawa Television, Adamawa publishing company, schools and other institutions, “ he said.

While speaking on the Kiri dam 35mw electricity project initiated by the aborted government of Murtala Nyako, Kwamanga explained that the state lacks the resource to embark on such a project now.

The commissioner clarified, “If the federal government can come in to join hands with the state government on the Kiri dam electricity project, it will be fantastic, and the state government will appreciate it.”

To compliment the governor’s efforts at finding a permanent solution to the power outage in the state, Senator Binos Yeroe, representing the Southern Zone on People’s Democratic Party PDP ticket last month, trained over 250 women and men on solar power system installation and repairs.

He also donated starter packs to the 250 participants with cash for the takeoff of the businesses in the nine local government areas of the Southern Senatorial District.
