The chairmanship candidate of the Labour Party in Guyuk Local Government Council, Gandume Gamaliel, has asked the state Local Government Election Petitions Tribunal to nullify the election of Kassa Dangi Shallom as chairman of the Guyuk council.

Gamaliel alleged that Shallom forged the secondary school certificate with which he entered into the election.

Shallom who is of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, was declared winner of the 13th July, 2024 election in Guyuk by the Adamawa State Independent Electoral Commission, ADSIEC.

In his petition filed before the Local Government Election Petitions Tribunal, the Labour Party candidate Gamaliel is alleging that Kassa Shallom had submitted a forged certificate of the West African Examination Council to the election screening committee and then used it for the council election.

He told the tribunal that the election screening committee which should have disqualified Shallom over the forged certificate refused to do so and ADSIEC went ahead to declare him winner of that election.

He said he and the ADC candidate were the only two who contested in the election lawfully and he was shocked that Shallom would take part in the election despite questions over his certificate and would even go ahead to be declared winner and be sworn into office.

He prayed for an order of the tribunal directing ADSIEC to withdraw the certificate of return issued to Shallom and to declare him (Gamaliel), being the one with the second highest votes in the election, as the lawful winner.
