Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has approved payment of the N70,000 national minimum wage to workers in Adamawa State. The State Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Chairman, Emmanuel Fashe, announced yesterday in an interview with newsmen shortly after a closed-door meeting with the governor at the Government House, Yola.

He said state government workers would start receiving their new wage from this month, while their counterparts at the local government level would benefit from next month.

Fashe explained that the template to be used is the consequential adjustment deployed in 2019, pending the release of the table from the National Salaries, Wages and Income Commission (NSIWC).

The labour leader stated: “Whatever the worker was getting as the present national minimum wage of N32,000 as it applies to Adamawa State, that same will be applied in terms of percentages in implementation of the new minimum wage.”

He added that the governor had shown interest in the welfare of workers, hence the implementation of the new minimum wage even before the release of the table from the NSIWC.
