The Adamawa State Government has voted N17.1 billion to build three new mega science secondary schools.
The schools are to be located in Lamurde, a town in the southern part of the state; in Gulak, headquarters of the Madagali local government area of northern Adamawa; and in the central Adamawa town of Hong.
The decision came to light on Wednesday evening after a meeting of the State Executive Council, SEC, of the state government held at the Government House, Yola.
The Commissioner of Education, Dr Umar Garba Pella, who shed further light on the mega school project, said the one to be in Hong will be for girls only.
Commissioner of Information and Strategy James Iliya, who spoke to newsmen on other decisions of the SEC meeting, revealed that the council also earmarked N13.8 billion for the expansion of the remaining section of Galadima Aminu Way and the construction of an underpass at the Fire Service Roundabout, both in Yola.
Iliya said the underpass project, awarded to Triacta Nigeria Limited, will cover the building of stormwater drainage through Gimba Road, and 2.3km of service lanes on both sides of the existing dual carriageway.
The commissioner further disclosed that the council approved a 7.5km road with bridges from Mararraba Garta to Kamale in Michika LGA at the cost of N4.3 billion, as well as a 14km Sukur Road in neighbouring Madagali LGA, both in the northern part of Adamawa, at the cost of N2.5 billion.
