The spokesperson for Osun State Governor Mallam Olawale Rasheed said the state government has taken proactive steps across sectors by generating and adopting state policies in critical areas of importance to developing a 21st-century state economy.

Rasheed, who shed light on the policy agenda of Governor Ademola Adeleke’s led government in the power sector, digital economy, and climate change, among other things, stated that Adeleke launched the making of the state electricity market policy and bill following the devolution of power generation and distribution to the concurrent legislative list of the 1999 constitution.

Addressing journalists in Osogbo on the occasion of Osun at 33, Rasheed stated that Osun has a draft legislation and policy framework for the power sector that will soon be submitted to the state House of Assembly for consideration and passage.

His words: “In the area of digital economy, Mr Governor has indeed placed Osun on the global digital map. Before Governor Adeleke assumed office, Osun had no state policy on ICT. As of today, Osun has a robust policy that is now set for implementation under ICT professionals with over 30 years of experience.

“Additionally, before now, Osun had no state tech innovation policy designed to stimulate the innovation sector to boost the emerging multi-billion dollar global digital economy. Osun’s STI policy has been adopted after a rigorous public consultation and validation process.

The implementation has started.

“And when you talk of a robust state plan for integrated economic development, Mr Governor has an activated policy plan focused on transforming Osun from its civil service focus to an agro-based industrialised economy. A state investment summit that has gained the acceptance of the Western diplomatic community is held this year.

He noted that the agro agenda is on course, with the proposed unveiling of newly acquired tractors soon. He added that this will be Osun’s first acquisition of new tractors in the last 13 years.

On the climate agenda, Rasheed posited that Osun is working to finalise the state climate change agenda under a world-class consultant.
