The Centre for Integrated Health Programs, CIHP, has raised concerns over the challenges faced by adolescents, noting that a good number of them deal with high rates of HIV and other infectious diseases, mental health issues, substance abuse, and limited access to reproductive health services.

The group, in a press statement signed by its Chief Executive, Dr Bolanle Oyeledun, said it has become expedient that experts sit in and deliberate on the vulnerabilities faced by this critical section of society and find ways to address their challenges, especially as regards their healthcare.

She said this significant demography in the nation’s population appears to have been overlooked and requires sustainable strategies to empower them

The statement read, ”Adolescence is a pivotal stage of life characterized by significant physical, emotional, and social changes. In Nigeria, adolescents and young people face a myriad of challenges including high rates of HIV and other infectious diseases, mental health issues, substance abuse, and limited access to reproductive health services.

”The roundtable discussion will focus on identifying sustainable strategies to empower adolescents through STEM education, vocational training, and leadership programs. Participants will also explore the role of technology in enhancing health interventions and promoting mental well-being among young people.

”The event aims to foster collaboration, knowledge sharing, and the development of a comprehensive and sustainable strategy to address the needs of adolescents and young people. It is anticipated that the discussions will lead to concrete action plans and partnerships to improve the lives of young Nigerians”.
