Late gospel singer, Aduke Ajayi, popularly known as Aduke Gold died of cervical cancer, her brother, pastor Ajayi Aderogbo has said.

Cervical cancer is cancer that starts in the cervix, the lower part of the uterus that connects to the vagina.

The news of her death was confirmed Tuesday morning by fellow gospel artist Esther Igbekele in an Instagram post: “A GREAT TALENT HAS BEEN LOST. ADUKE GOLD #rip,” she wrote, accompanied by a photograph.

Shortly after Aduke Gold passed away, rumours circulated online claiming she died during a fibroid surgery procedure.

Responding to the widespread speculation surrounding his sister’s unexpected death, Pastor Ajayi dismissed the rumours about her passing.

He said Aduke Gold died at the University College Hospital, UCH, Ibadan on Monday.

“She was ill; she had cervical cancer.She was taken to UCH in Ibadan, but unfortunately, she died. We have gotten the death certificate, and whoever is spreading false information should stop. Our daughter was ill; she had cervical cancer, and to the Glory of God, she rested on Monday, the 12th of August,” her brother said during an interview with Gbeborun9ja on Thursday,

He urged the public to cross-check information before sharing it.

The news of her passing has sent shockwaves through the Nigerian gospel music community and beyond which met with an outpouring of grief from colleagues, friends and fans.

Heartfelt comments like “Haaaaaaa is it really true? Jesus” and “What!!” express the shock felt by those who knew and loved her.

Raised in the Ogba and Badagry neighborhoods of Lagos, Aduke Gold was the 11th child of her late parents.

She began her professional music career in 2004 and gained recognition through a live performance at the first memorial for the late gospel artiste, Baba Are.

Her popular track “Nitori Ogo,” released in 2021, further propelled her into the spotlight.

In addition to her successful music career, Aduke holds a degree in History and International Relations from Lagos State University.
