The pan-Yoruba socio-cultural and socio-political organization, Afenifere, has recently appointed three new officers to bolster its operational capabilities.

The names of the appointed officers were confirmed in a press release issued by the organization’s National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Jare Ajayi.

These include Agbaakin Ademola Babatunde Folarin as the new Secretary General, Alagba Dare Babarinsa as the Treasurer, and Barrister Lanre Omisore as the Financial Secretary.

The press release further details that these individuals will join the existing officers who are already serving in various capacities within the organization.

The newly appointed members include Abagun Kole Omololu, serving as the National Organisation Secretary; Dr Akin Onigbinde, a SAN and Legal Adviser; and Comrade Jare Ajayi, currently the National Publicity Secretary.

The appointments were officially made by the National Leader of the organization, Chief Reuben Famuyide Fasoranti, OFR, during the opening session of the Caucus meeting held at his residence in Akure, Ondo State, on Tuesday, August 20, 2024.

The Caucus has since ratified the appointments.

Additionally, the press release announced the confirmation of Dr. Olusegun Mimiko’s appointment as Chairman of the Reconciliation Committee, a role previously confirmed by the Caucus.

Ajayi observed that adhering to the Afenifere tradition, the Leader has the authority to designate officers to oversee the organization’s operations.

The newly appointed Secretary General, Folarin, is a distinguished lawyer with over four decades of experience and is renowned for his philanthropic endeavours, rather than for his propensity for public displays.

He is also recognized as the Agbaakin Mayegun of Ibadanland, a title that signifies his leadership role.

His legal practice is situated in Lagos, where he is a staunch Yoruba patriot who prefers to work in a more discreet capacity. His deep-seated pride in Yorubania is reflected in his approach to his duties.

The newly appointed Treasurer, Alagba Babarinsa, is a celebrated journalist with a career spanning over 40 years.

He is recognized as one of the inaugural members of the defunct Concord newspaper and played a pivotal role in the establishment of Tell magazine, among other notable publications.

Barrister Omisore, a distinguished legal professional, has an extensive background, having practised law in the United Kingdom.

Ajayi, in his capacity as the spokesman for Afenifere, referenced The Leader, Pa Fasoranti, who has affirmed that the appointments are to take immediate effect.
