Amid the tension being heightened due to the proposed nationwide protests, Nigerians, especially those in the FCT and Lagos, are going through grueling times due to long petrol queues and an unexplained spike in the price of PMS.

As at Saturday, price of PMS in most filling stations where it was available was inching closer to N1000 per litre, further worsening the economic plight of the citizens.

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) confirmed fuel supply and distribution challenges in some parts of Lagos and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) but promised to work on restoring normalcy.

According to them, “The NNPC Ltd. wishes to state that the tightness in fuel supply and distribution witnessed in some parts of Lagos and the FCT is as a result of a hitch in the discharge operations of a couple of vessels,” the Chief Corporate Communications Officer of the NNPCL Olufemi Soneye said in a Saturday statement.

“The Company further states that it is working round the clock with all stakeholders to resolve the situation and restore normalcy in the operations.”

President Bola Tinubu had last year announced the stoppage of subsidy on the product, pushing the price of the commodity more than thrice higher.

The move was part of the Federal Government’s plan to save scarce foreign reserves and funneling them into infrastructure and other projects.
