A former governor of Osun State, Chief Bisi Akande, has charged members of the All Progressives Congress in the state to strengthen the party ahead of the 2026 governorship poll.

The APC, riddled with crisis, was ousted from power in the state during the governorship election held in July 2022 and won by the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Senator Ademola Adeleke.

This was as the party leaders and stakeholders unanimously adopted the former governor of the state and Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Mr Gboyega Oyetola, as the leader of the party in the state.

Akande spoke in Ila, his country home, during the APC stakeholders’ meeting he hosted, which was attended by leaders of the party, including Oyetola; APC National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru; Alhaji Shuaib Oyedokun, among others.

In the communique issued at the end of the meeting, signed by the Osun APC Chairman, Tajudeen Lawal and obtained in Osogbo, on Wednesday, the stakeholders urged members of the party not to allow disloyal elements to participate in its electronic registration.

The meeting also called for unity and strengthening of the party and admonished APC leaders and members in the state to shun divisive tendencies.

“Chief Adebisi Akande charged party leaders and stakeholders to work for the strengthening of the party ahead of the 2026 governorship election, as well as the need to formally adopt a leader for the party in the state.

“Upon a motion moved by the National Secretary of APC, Senator Ajibola Basiru and seconded by Pa Gbadebo Ajao, party leaders and stakeholders unanimously adopted His Excellency, Alhaji Adegboyega Oyetola, as the leader of the party in the state

“The meeting urged unity and strengthening of the party in the state, hence the need for party leaders and members to shun divisive tendencies.

“On e-registration, party members were urged not to allow disloyal members to participate,” the communiqué read.
