Akwa Ibom State Government has reiterated its pledge to develop and promote Mary Slessor’s legacies, as part of measures toward boosting tourism in the state.
The Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Sir Charles Udoh, disclosed this in his office when he recently played host to the crew of Mary Slessor Foundation, a non-governmental organsation, led by its Chairman, Rt. Rev. Ini Ukpuho.
Udoh, who expressed government’s readiness to partner valuable organisations and public spirited individuals, in the development of the state, pledged commitment to showcasing the legacies of Mary Slessor, as he said, “it is an attraction with prospects to boost the economy of the people.”
The commissioner further noted that with tourism as a major revenue earner globally, Akwa Ibom State government is committed to boosting tourism such as the Mary Slessor legacies, which will encompass instituting Twins Festival, to accentuate the work of the Scottish Presbyterian Missionary, who stopped the killing of twins in both Cross River and Akwa Ibom states.

Ukpuho in his presentation stated that the visit was a move in line with the directive of the state Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, for the Presbyterian Church to foster partnership with the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, towards the promotion of Mary Slessor’s legacies.
He expressed appreciation to the Commissioner for the warm reception accorded him and his team and pledged to provide necessary information and materials needed to support the promotion and marketing of the legacies of Mary Slessor.
Present at the event were: the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mrs. Grace Akpan, the Secretary of the Foundation, Elder Nnanna Idika and the Chief Executive Officer, Global Trend Marketing Solutions Limited, Desmond Imo Ita.
