An Eminent Peace Ambassador, Amb. Emmanuel Aghedo, has said that he stands firmly committed to supporting Nigeria in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in the area of Sustainable Economic Growth and Employment Opportunities.

In a press statement signed personally by Aghedo and distributed to journalists in Abuja, by the Director, Media and Publicity of the International Association Of World Peace Advocates (IAWPA), Amb. Messiah Nwokoma, Aghedo said in a nation as populous and diverse as Nigeria, the challenge of eradicating poverty and promoting sustainable economic growth is paramount. He said the United Nations (UN) has a vital role to play in assisting Nigeria to harness its vast resources and human capital towards realising the goals.

He said the effective collaboration between the UN and the Nigerian government can facilitate capacity building which will lead to providing training programmes and resources that empower local communities and small businesses, fostering entrepreneurship and job creation, investment in infrastructure, which will encourage investment in essential infrastructure such as transportation, energy, and technology, which are crucial for sustainable economic development, as well as Sustainable Agriculture which has the capacity of supporting initiatives that promote practices leading to food security, resilience to climate change, and increased agricultural productivity.

The statement further emphasised the need for youth empowerment, which it said was critical in the launching of programmes aimed at equipping the youth with skills that meet labour market demands, promoting vocational training and education initiatives.

Amb. Emmanuel Aghedo also urged all stakeholders to collaborate in strengthening efforts that enable Nigeria to meet its commitments to the SDGs, stressing that together, issues of economic disparities can be addressed and all parties can foster a sustainable future for all Nigerians.
