Anthony Joshua Insists Daniel Dubois Wasn’t Close To Knocking Him Out

While Nigerian-born British heavyweight boxer, Anthony Joshua is preparing to face Daniel Dubois on September 21, there have been strong speculations that the 26-year-old Briton almost knocked out AJ in a sparring session in 2016.

Former professional boxer, Anthony Fowler, who witnessed the sparring session, escalated the speculation by saying that Anthony Joshua’s “legs were like jelly” after receiving a hard punch from Dubois.

The former boxer went further to reveal that Joshua’s trainer, Rob McCracken, had to force him to stop sparring due to the condition of AJ after receiving the hard punch.

“Have a little break, get your legs back to normal, and then spar”, Fowler quoted AJ’s trainer as saying to the Nigerian-born boxer.

In his reaction to the speculations, Anthony Joshua refuted the claims that he was almost knocked out by Dubois but admitted that he received a hard punch from the fast-rising heavyweight boxer.

“He just cracked me with a good shot. I stood on my feet. I don’t know where this whole narrative of someone turning my lights off came from”, Anthony Joshua told Sky Sports.

“There were a lot of people in the gym that day as well. And people have come out and said, ‘Nah, nothing happened.’ But anyway, people say what they say.”

While some in the boxing community are backing 33-year-old Joshua to emerge victorious in the September 21 showdown, others are placing their faith in Dubois.

The bout, which will take place at Wembley Stadium, promises to settle the longstanding debate surrounding their sparring session and determine the future of British heavyweight boxing.
