Moshood Olayide-Abas has emerged as the Acting Chairman for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State.
Naija News reports that the state’s APC chairmanship position became vacant following the death of Isaac Omodewu.
Before this appointment, Olayide-Abas served as the Deputy State Chairman of the party.
He, along with the late Omodewu and other members of the APC State Executive Committee, was elected during the party’s most recent state congress, which took place in October 2021.
In a statement released by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Olawale Sadare, it was confirmed that the state executive committee sanctioned Olayide-Abas’s appointment as acting chairman.
This ratification occurred during an emergency meeting convened on Monday in Ibadan.
“Following the transition of our former state chairman, the Constitution of our great party has placed on us the onus to fill the vacuum by elevating the Deputy State Chairman to the post of Acting Chairman and this is exactly what the SEC has done.
“The new Acting Chairman belongs to the category of leaders of the Progressives with an intimidating track record of service as a professional and a politician.
“Olayide-Abas, a certified pharmacist, started his active political career with the defunct Unity Party of Nigeria (UPN) in the 70s and he was a direct trainee under the late Uncle Bola Ige.
“In 1991, he emerged as Executive Chairman of the old Ifeloju Local Government Area (LGA), which was later split into Ibarapa Central and Ibarapa North LGAs.
“He was also appointed the Chairman, Oyo State Hospital Management Board during the first term of the late Sen. Abiola Ajimobi.
“In addition, he held various party positions at the state level between 2004 and 2009 under the defunct Action Congress (AC) and later Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN),” the statement noted.
