A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Benue State and aspirant for the Ado/Okpokwu/Ogbadibo Federal Constituency, Engr. Innocent Ikwumonu, has urged the Benue masses to remain supportive of Governor Hyacinth Alia for the development of the state.
He stated this over the weekend in Makurdi during the civic grand reception organized by the Benue State APC Youth Forum in honor of six indigenes who were appointed to various boards of tertiary institutions in the country.
Agbo, who was the Chairman of the event, said that for a while now, the people of the state have prayed for the leadership style possessed by the governor.
He said Governor Alia has done very well in the prompt payment of salaries to civil servants and pensioners since assuming office in the past year.
Agbo added that the governor has reinforced his campaign promises through the massive construction and rehabilitation of infrastructure in the state.
In a remark on behalf of the honorees, Chairman of the Forum of Chairmen, Governing Boards of Tertiary Institutions in Nigeria, Sen. Barnabas Gemade, said they were appreciative of Governor Alia for the appointments and the gesture of the APC Youth Forum.
He challenged those who claimed to be specialists in preventing a governor from completing two terms, asserting that they would not succeed, adding that this was a different ball game altogether.
He explained that Governor Alia deserves a second term more than any other governor before him.
According to Gemade, “Nobody whatsoever is going to stop Governor Alia from making eight years of governorship. There are people in this state who try to stop people from being governor, but there are also other people who tried to stop governors from having a second term, and there are people here who made sure that governors have a second term.
“So, those who try to make sure governors don’t have a second term must know that we are always here to make sure governors have a second term. And this particular governor deserves a second term more than anyone before him. And that is what is going to happen,” he vowed.
