Some members from the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State have reportedly decamped to the Social Democratic Party (SDP) ahead of the governorship election scheduled for November 16.

Naija News understands that the individuals moved during a rally at the SDP’s secretariat in Akure, where they formally renounced their APC membership by returning their cards and subsequently received SDP membership cards.

The former APC members expressed feelings of unfair treatment within their previous party.

Femi Ikoyi, who leads the defectors, highlighted their significant presence in the Ondo APC, previously recognized as the People’s Democratic Movement (PDM).

He further noted that additional members from both the APC and PDP have shown interest in joining the SDP, aiming to bolster support for their candidate, Otunba Bamidele Akingboye.

“I’m bringing my PDM people in APC to PDP. We know the SDP candidate is the favourite of Abuja.

“We aim to win the election. What APC is doing to us at the local level is not encouraging. This is why we are moving to SDP. I am here to deliver Akingboye,” Daily Post quoted the politician saying.

While receiving the defectors, the Chairman of Ondo SDP, Gbenga Akinbunmi, assured them of equal treatment in the party.

Meanwhile, the state SDP governorship candidate congratulated the defectors for joining the party, promising to embark on inclusive governance if elected as governor.
