APC Sweeps Ogun LG Election

The Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC) has declared all 20 All Progressives Congress (APC) chairmanship candidates winners of last Saturday’s Local Government election conducted in the state.

The chairman of the commission, Babatunde Osibodu, also declared all the 236 APC councillorship candidates winners of the election while presenting the official results of the polls at the commission’s headquarters in Oke-Ilewo, Abeokuta, the state capital, in the early hours of Sunday.

Osibodu, who officially announced the result of the year 2024 Local Government Chairmanship and Councilorship elections during a live broadcast, said the ruling party, APC emerged victorious across all the 20 Local Government Areas and 236 wards in the state by polling a total of 613 156 votes cast in the exercise which witnessed significant political parties like the Accord Party (AP), African Action Congress (AAC), African Democratic Congress (ADC), Action Democratic Party (ADP), All Progressives Congress (APC) participating.

Other political parties included the Allied People’s Movement (APM), All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Labour Party (LP), People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Social Democratic Party (SDP), Young Progressive Party (YPP), Action People’s Party (APP), Action Alliance (AA), Boot Party (BP), People’s Redemption Party (PRP), National Rescue Movement (NRM), and Zenith Labour Party (ZLP).

When this report was filed, the commission said it would present the Certificates of Return to all elected chairmen, vice chairmen, and the 236 councillors-elect on Sunday.

A statement signed by the commission’s chairman, Osibodu, a copy of which was obtained by LEADERSHIP, indicated that the event would be held at the commission’s headquarters in Oke—Ilewo, Abeokuta, the state capital.
