Football enthusiasts have heaped praise on Super Falcons goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie following another stellar performance against Spain in Nigeria’s second Group C game in the women’s football event of the 2024 Paris Olympics, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

The Falcons lost 1-0 to the world champions at Stade de la Beaujoire-Louis Fonteneau, Nantes, on Sunday, leaving them on the brink of elimination.

Randy Waldrum’s strategy was clear; his team sat back and soaked up the pressure, allowing Spain to take control of possession, and La Roja had 64 percent of the ball possession, having seven shots on target with another five blocked.

The Paris FC shotstopper showed again why she is among the best in her position, putting up an impressive display with a string of brave saves.

However, it was the outstanding performance from Nnadozie that kept the Falcons in the game until Alexia Putellas’ 86th-minute goal broke Nigeria’s coordinated defence.

One of the highlights of her performance was pulling off a point-blank save to deny Alexis Putellas from turning in a cross in the 44th minute.

Fans swarmed social media to sing praise of the 23-year-old goalkeeper.

AJ Silver wrote, “I was crying when you started crying at the end of the game because you felt the pain of losing again.

“I’m so sorry you didn’t see it coming, but none of us did. Nobody will even question your commitment to this nation with the way you played last night. We love you.

Olukayode Ajenifuja added, “Keep your head, Chiamaka; you are a Nigerian heroine, always giving us 100 percent every time and every day you wear the national colours. God bless you.”

Aladese S tweeted, “Great job; keep your head up. Even the best goalkeepers concede; remember David Seaman against Brazil in the 2002 World Cup. No worries, we move.”

“So proud of you; you will always be the best female goalkeeper in the world… Much love,” Efe Alexander Ogugu wrote.

Chigozie wrote, “Me and my family love you, and you need to see the way we were praising you yesterday (Sunday), especially my little daughter, your name sake, ChiAmaka.”

Kenneth Kentucky added, “That goal was a shame after all her good works; she deserved better.”

Also singing the praise of the CAF Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year, D_Oluwashina tweeted, “As always, you dey turn up! Great game yesterday, but the best team won. So proud of your performance in particular.”

Ben Waldrum wrote, “She is world-class! One of the best in the world! Nothing but love for Nadozie Chiamaka. We love you! You did absolutely great. You’re the best.”
