The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has expressed shock that its X (formerly Twitter) handle disappeared from the social platform.

EFCC’s Spokesman, Dele Oyewale, said the disappearance could be a network issue when contacted by the Foundation for Investigative Journalism (FIJ).

A check by our reporter showed that Tuesday (today) afternoon, the account did not exist again on the platform and could not be a network issue.

A search conducted on X for the account, read, “This account doesn’t exist

When contacted, Dele Oyewale told FIJ, “Are you sure? Let me find out from our Information and Technology unit.

“It is just a network issue. Our IT people are attending to it and it would be back up soon.”

One of the conditions for an account to stop existing on the social platform is a ban from X. An account owner can also delete his or her account handle.

Account owners have the ability to deactivate their account at any time. When an account owner deactivates their account, the page will be rendered as unavailable,” according to X rule.

As of the time of filing this report, the account handle has not come up. Dele Oyewale has yet to give any further update on the issue.

Most Nigerian ministries and agencies including EFCC update their activities on X and other social platforms through their handles to keep citizens updated on their programmes and policies.
