Super Falcons forward, Asisat Oshoala believes that she and her teammates put up a valiant effort in their 1-0 loss to Spain at the football event of the 2024 Paris Olympics.

While Asisat Oshoala expressed satisfaction with the Super Falcons’ performance against Spain, she emphasized the need for the players to improve their finishing.

During the game, the Falcons created a good number of scoring opportunities, including misses by Captain Rasheedat Ajibade and Chiwendu Ihezuo.

Oshoala highlighted the importance of converting these chances, expressing confidence that the team can compete with any opponent if they start scoring goals.

“All I can say is I am proud of our performance. I think we played good”, Asisat Oshoala told reporters in Paris.

“We played against the world champions, and we had our chances; we had opportunities to score Spain.

“I think the same thing happened to us in the first game. We were not clinical upfront. I think if we start scoring goals we can compete with any team in the world.”

Meanwhile, Super Falcons’ resilient display earned praise from injured Ashleigh Plumptre, who commended their defensive prowess against Spain despite the defeat.

“This team knows how to defend – sheesh! Good fight @NGSuper_Falcons – proud to watch,” the Al-Ittihad of Saudi Arabia defender wrote on X.

How the Super Falcons Can Remain in the 2024 Olympics

The Super Falcons have recorded two successive defeats at the football event of the 2024 Olympics – 1-0 to Brazil, and 1-0 to Spain.

Hence, the only way they can stand a chance of making it to the next stage of the tournament is to beat Japan in their last group stage game on July 31.

If the Falcons beat the Japanese, they are likely to qualify for the next stage as one of the best losers.
