Worried by the social vices and criminalities that have deeply infiltrated the service, Abia State Head of Service, Mrs Queen Obioma, has urged labor unions in the state to collaborate with the state government to eradicate the ills bedeviling the civil and public service.
Mrs Obioma made the call while receiving the newly elected executive members of the National Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Abia State Chapter, in her office in Umuahia.
The State Head of Service, particularly bemoaned the frequency with which civil and public servants now falsify their documents to extend their stay in the service, lamenting that corrupt officials are neglecting the laid-down rules governing the service.
She vowed that such evil practices would not be allowed to thrive unabated in the Abia State civil service and urged the labor unions to rise to the challenges to restore the lost glory of the service.
The Abia Head of Service, however, urged civil servants in the state to be patient with the government, saying it is making frantic efforts to pay whatever is owed to them and encouraged them to always demonstrate a high degree of loyalty, honesty, and commitment in the discharge of their duties.
Earlier, the President of NULGE, Abia Chapter, Mrs Linda Ihuoma Unaeze, said they were on the visit to familiarize themselves with her and assured the government of their partnership in ensuring a better service.
