Atalanta have taken significant steps to secure the future of Super Eagles forward, Ademola Lookman, by proposing a new contract that aims to keep him at the Gewiss Stadium until at least 2027.
According to reports from Bergamo & Sports journalist Luciano Rota, Atalanta are eager to enhance Lookman’s current terms in response to increasing interest from some of Europe’s top football clubs.
To deter these potential suitors, Atalanta are looking to double Lookman’s salary to approximately €3.5 million per year.
Lookman, who is currently 27 years old, attracted considerable attention this summer and is said to have reached an agreement on personal terms with Paris Saint-Germain, the reigning champions of Ligue 1.
However, Atalanta intervened to block the transfer, indicating their desire to maintain their key player in the squad.
Given his impressive performances at the beginning of the 2024/25 season, Lookman is likely to attract further interest from major European clubs in the upcoming summer transfer window.
His stock has risen significantly, as he recently finished 14th in the prestigious 2024 Ballon d’Or rankings and is also a strong candidate for the CAF Men’s Player of the Year award.
Note that Lookman joined Atalanta in 2022 from the Bundesliga team RB Leipzig and has since become an integral part of their attacking lineup.
With two years left on his current contract, Atalanta’s proactive approach reflects their commitment to retaining his services and recognizing his importance to the team’s future ambitions.
