The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 election Atiku Abubakar visited former President Muhammadu Buhari at his residence in Daura, Katsina State.
Atiku in a post on X said his visit to Buhari was a courtesy call and Sallah homage.
He was accompanied by the immediate past Governor of Sokoto State Aminu Tambuwal along with other leaders of the PDP.
Atiku’s visit to Buhari was coming just three days after he paid a similar visit to former Head of States Ibrahim Babangida and Abdulsalami Abubakar, at their respective residences in Niger State.
It is believed that Atiku’s recent visits may be connected with the 2027 general elections.
The former Vice President finished second in the 2023 presidential election won by Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the All Progressive Congress (APC).
He polled polled a total of 6,984,520 votes behind Tinubu who had 8,794,726 votes.
Labour Party’s Peter Obi came third in the election with a total of 6,101,533 votes while Rabiu Kwankwaso of the NNPP came fourth with 1,496,687 votes.
Atiku and Obi filed legal challenges to the result, arguing that Nigeria’s Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had failed to digitally transmit results from polling stations as promised.
Their petitions were dismissed at the Supreme Court where Tinubu’s election was upheld.
