African Union (AU) ambassadors have warned that corruption and unemployment pose significant threats to Africa’s development and stability, urging leaders to take immediate action to address the challenges.

While stressing the need for urgent attention to the challenges to ensure a prosperous and stable future for Africa, the ambassadors urged youths to participate in governance.
They made the call, yesterday, at the second investiture of ambassadors of the Order of the AU Agenda 2063 in Abuja, where Ambassadors Vivian Elegalam and Hon. Orok Orok were honour.
Elegalam emphasised that unemployment was a significant issue in Africa, particularly in Nigeria, where many youths were unemployed. She, however, advised young people not to wait for government jobs but to take the initiative and strive to do something for themselves.
The AU envoy also stressed the need for African governments to address corruption, citing it as a major obstacle to development. She urged leaders to prioritise citizens over personal gain, noting that corruption would lead to suffering and hunger.
In his remarks, the Chairman of the Governing Council of the African Union Agenda 2063 Ambassadorial Assembly, Dr Tunji Asaolu, highlighted the importance of promoting the AU’s Agenda 2063.
According to him, the AU Agenda 2063 is a 50-year plan for development aiming for a united Africa with one passport and currency by 2063.
