August 1: Alex Otti Writes Traditional Rulers Ahead Of Nationwide Protest

Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has once again voiced concerns about the potential for the planned national protest to escalate into violence, endangering the less fortunate, weak, and vulnerable members of society.

In a statewide broadcast on Tuesday morning, Otti urged traditional rulers, religious leaders, and other community figures to counsel their constituents against resorting to violent actions.

The governor advised the youth of Abia to show restraint and present their demands to leaders through dialogue, promising that his administration would take all necessary measures to safeguard the population from harm and destruction.

While recognizing the right of Nigerians to protest against unfavourable conditions, Otti expressed apprehension that the noble intentions of the protest organizers could be undermined if troublemakers and criminals exploit the situation to cause chaos.

Governor Otti highlighted the investments made by his administration in infrastructure in Aba and Umuahia, emphasizing the importance of protecting these assets from destruction by individuals seeking to exploit the protest for nefarious purposes.

He stressed that what Abia truly requires is a strong commitment to peace and sustainable development, rather than descending into disorder.

Regarding the economic policies of the federal government, including the removal of fuel subsidies, Otti acknowledged that the desired outcomes may not have been fully achieved, but he urged the youth to pursue their demands through peaceful means rather than resorting to violence.

Otti also confirmed that Abia state civil servants have received their April salaries as per the Wage Award, fulfilling one of the promises made by his administration, and he implored the people of Abia to reject violence.
