However, ahead of the prestigious football award gala slated for October, several football stakeholders have continued to air their thoughts on whom they deem as deserving to clinch the Golden Ball. The latest to air his take on this is former Barcelona forward, Sergio Aguero.
The 36-year-old made a pick of his favourite to win the prize in a recent interview.
Aguero names favourite for 2024 Ballon d'Or
In an interview reported by Madrid Zone, the retired forward expressed his desire for Bellingham to clinch the prize, but acknowledged the strong case for Vinicius Jr.
"Ballon d'Or? Viní Jr. didn't disappear in Copa America. It's just that Brazil is going through a tough time and he needs a good team. Looking at the whole season, Viní had an incredible run; this season, he was better than Mbappe.”“…Every time Vini got the ball in the middle of the pitch, you could feel the danger. This season, Viní and Bellingham were key for Real Madrid. I love Bellingham and would rather he got the Ballon d'Or, but you have to acknowledge that Viní was outstanding this season."The former Argentine forward's sentiments echo those of many football stakeholders, including former England defender, Rio Ferdinand, who has emphasised that the exceptional Brazilian deserves the ultimate prize.
According to UEFA.com, the 2024 edition of the Ballon d'Or gala will be held at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris, with a lavish ceremony on October 28.

In another report, Legit ng disclosed that Argentina captain Messi snubbed Jude Bellingham when highlighting his list of favourites for the 2024 Ballon d'Or.
The 37-year-old has been a recipient of the prestigious award on eight occasions.
