Bandits at the weekend invaded Garam, a community in Niger State sharing border with Bwari area council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), kidnapping a pregnant woman and four other persons.
The attack came after four months of respite enjoyed by people of the community which was thrown into turmoil between December 2023 and February this year when it was attacked more than four times by bandits who kidnapped scores.
A resident of the community told journalists that the bandits arrived at the community through a bush path around 3 a.m. yesterday, and went straight to the house of the victims to kidnap them.
He said as part of the new strategy of the bandits, they decided not to alert security men in the area by not shooting into the air.
“We learnt that they came at 3:00 a.m. They kidnapped five people including a pregnant woman alongside her child and husband. They forced their way into the building by breaking the door open. They came silently without shooting any guns like they used to do.
“The pregnant woman and the husband are of Nupe by tribe with their son, they also kidnapped a Hausa man that just packed into the compound and another child,” he said.
