More facts are emerging on how bandits attacked the Anguwan Mai-Giro community in Shiroro local government areas of Niger State, killing 11, Abducting scores and six others drowned while escaping from the attack.

It was learnt that some people displaced from their villages and farmlands taken over by bandits often go to the mining sites in the community to look for survival instead of staying in the camps idle, given their condition.

Sources hinted that those mostly attacked were those from the Allawa community displaced to Mai-Giro, adding that “the bandits specifically asked them that those from Allawa should go one way and those from other villages should go another way, immediately it was done they opened fire at those from Allawa and killed 11 of them.”

It was gathered that some of the villagers, in the process of escaping, jumped into River Kaduna and drowned, as the bandits hardly cross rivers.

Confirming the incident, the state’s acting governor, Comrade Yakubu Garba, condemned the attack by bandits on the community.

He confirmed that the areas attacked were parts of Rafi and Shiroro local government areas of the state, adding that some lives were lost.

The acting governor, in a statement by the chief press secretary, Bologi Ibrahim, describes the attack as “satanic, insensible, atrocious and callous”.

He said, “It is very disheartening and disturbing for fellow humans to carry out such a barbaric and vicious act on their fellow humans.”

While commiserating with the affected families, community members and the entire people of Shiroro local government area over the unfortunate incident, the acting Governor, who is also from Shiroro local government area, prayed to Allah to repose the souls of the departed, comfort their loved ones and grant quick healing to those injured.
