The Bauchi State House of Assembly Committee on Finance and Economic Development has harped on transparency and accountability by chairmen of the 20 local government areas in the state.
Chairman of the Committee, Ibrahim Burra said this during an oversight visit to Gamawa and Dambam local governments.

He said it was imperative to keep financial records in check and adhere to due process in all transactions.
Burra explained that the visit was designed to assess and verify the financial transactions of the local governments, ensuring accountability without any intent of a witch hunt.

He emphasised that the visit reflects a broader push by lawmakers to maintain strict oversight on how local councils handle public funds, a move aimed at fostering transparency and restoring public trust in governance across the state.

Responding, the chairman of Gamawa local government, Madaki Gololo, pledged a firm commitment to financial prudence.

Gololo explained that since taking office, his administration has prioritized sound record-keeping and responsible management of public resources to foster transparency in government funds.

He said the council has focused on diversifying its economic strategies, as many citizens are grappling with survival rather than investment, adding that to maximize revenue generation, the local government has implemented stringent measures to ensure that all income streams are properly accounted for and records are up-to-date.
