The Bauchi State chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has assured pensioners in the state of its resolve to commence negotiations with the state government for the N32,000 new pension reform.

The state NLC chairman, Comrade Dauda Shu’aibu, gave the assurance yesterday in Bauchi. He said the organised labour would soon engage the state government over the issue.

“The first day we engaged with the state government for this association, we forwarded two letters. One is for the implementation of the N70,000 minimum wage, and the second letter was for the N32,000 new pension reform.

“The first day we started the meeting, we discussed and agreed that we would take the two issues one after the other. Now that we are done with the issue of N70,000, it has been signed into agreement and become a law in Bauchi State.

“The next thing we will swing into is the N32,000 for the pensioners we have advocated to the government of Bauchi State, and the governor accepted that we should go into negotiation, but that would also be separate,” he stated.

Comrade Shu’aibu therefore assured the people of the state, especially his elders who have retired from service that any moment from now, “We are going to swing into their negotiations, that I assure them.”

He also assured that from the state and local government councils, there is no sector that had not been captured in the last N30,000 minimum wage, hence the same it will apply to the N70,000 new minimum wage now in the state of implementation.
